Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic, FSU transitioned to virtual classes. This was definitely an adjustment for me because during that time, I was a freshman who was getting accustomed to being away for college. When I returned home in the spring 2020 semester, I had to adjust my schedule, so I could allot time for my classes. Oftentimes, it was difficult to focus on school work because I was distracted by activities happening at home. Yet, I was grateful to spend more time with my family during these unprecedented circumstances. We grew closer as a family. Despite the distractions, I was able to handle it, and I took four extra classes in the summer so I could graduate early. That was definitely useful because I gained ten credits as a distant learner.      As a future teacher, I would want to improve the experience of distant learners. For example, I want to provide multiple resources for distant learners, so the...

EME 2040 First Blog: About Me

Hi everyone. My name is Sofia, and I am a senior at Florida State University. I am from Miami, Florida, and I have lived there my whole life. At FSU, I am majoring in English on the literature, media, and culture track, and I am minoring in education. I hope to attend law school once I graduate FSU in the spring.      I have used technology in an educational setting prior to taking this course. I take my laptop everyday to school, and I am constantly on Canvas where my professors post assignments. In addition, when I am home in Miami, I substitute at my local elementary school. When I substitute, I am given access to the absent teacher's computer, and I use his/her smart board. The smart board projects my computer screen, so that the students are able to view the lesson. It is a great tool to use for students at school.      I use several learning resources, both online and offline, in order to support my learning needs and goals. I bel...

EME 2040: Blog Journal #5

I've had a Twitter account for my own personal use since 2013. However, I created a new account for this course. Last night, I interacted with those on the #BuildHOPedu Twitter chat. This Twitter chat was wonderful, and I met new people from around the country. Each of them has a goal to make education a hopeful and safe environment for everyone. Interacting with them has been beneficial because we all share the same ideas and thoughts about education. Finding a group of people who share these sentiments allows us to connect, even if it's through the Internet. In my future career as a lawyer, I hope to use Twitter in a positive way. With the help of Twitter, I can connect with my clients on a daily basis. I can share my information such as office location and times of operation. Twitter can be used as a great networking device.      Digital Divide can affect a student's success in the classroom. In today's society, t...
