EME 2040: Blog Journal #6

This is the first time I have ever used Diigo for a course. I think it is a unique and interesting tool to use for class discussions and group work. I like how I can see others' comments and posts from our class. I do not like that I cannot use Diigo in Safari. That is typically what I use when I access the Internet, so I tend to forget to use Chrome when I log into my Diigo account. Overall, I like the highlighting, annotating, and bookmarking methods that Diigo offers.
I enjoy our class blogs. I'm not one to blog as I am a private person. However, I think it is a great tool to use for class discussions. I like to read my classmates' responses and sometimes I comment on their posts. By completing the participation portfolios, I have the opportunity to comment on the blogs and read others' perspectives. Throughout the blogging process, I learned to respect others' opinions. Everyone's opinion matters, and it is important to be understanding about others and their thoughts. The Internet, specifically blogging, is a great way to connect with others. However, it can be a form of cyber bullying if people use it in the wrong way.
In the future, I might use YouTube when teaching. Although this is a common method, YouTube is a great method to use for teaching. YouTube offers educational videos and channels that I can have my students view, so they can understand the lesson being taught. I attached a link to an educational video found on YouTube. Specifically, the video recognizes and correctly pronounces sight words for 3rd grade students. Being able to quickly identify sight words is important for young readers. The majority of these words are found in 3rd grade-level reading.
